In todays lesson we looked at the projects of other students from previous years to gain inspiration and get ideas.
Firstly we looked at Roses are Red,
What we well: - Suitable music for the style of the intro.
- The piece flowed well
-The titles were creative and original. With this they were very well put together.
Even better if: - Not a wide variety of shots.
- At some points there was a shaky camera, causing an unclear image.
- Not a lot of enigma codes.
- They focused too heavily on the titles and not enough on the actual piece.
Overall I thought this was piece would be a low level 3.
Secondly we looked at Mother and I,
What went well: - Leaves the viewer with enigma codes.
- They used different age actors to bring something different to the piece. - Some of the editing flowed very well.
Even better if : - There was not much non diagetic sound in the project.
- The location was not experimental and too dull.
All together I thought this was a high level 2.
Thirdly and lastly we watched The Edge,
What went well: - I noticed that everything in this clip went well. rom the location to the editing they have thought very thoroughly about each scene. The titles were well presented yet the only thing was that they may have included too any in a short time. Although this is clutching at straws as they included a unique location. The editing was creative and very well done and really there wasn't much to fault about the production.
Then as homework we were asked to analyse three other film openings.
The first I watched was Captive.
I found this film opening very hard to say anything bad about. The visuals with the blood and cuts on his face looked real. The effects, such as the security camera, where it split into four screens were used to great effect. The only hiccup i could find is that it has a slight trailer feel to it. For example the large amount of cutting from one scene to another and with the film title appearing last.
The second film i watched was called Mask.
What went well: -Had music which matched the genre.
- Actors seemed to be of an older age, but not all the actors.
- Used a wide variety of transitions and shots.
Even better if: - The editing and sound went together more smoothly.
- No credits were shown.
The third and final film i watched was called Defenestration.
What went well:- The use of asynchronous sound during or voice overs during the different scenes.
- Introduced spy and mystery type genre. Alongside the characters.
Even better if:- Actors seemed of the appropriate age ot make it realistic.
- Sound changes and skips.
- Props were unrealistic
